CookieTime is a joint venture of Kid Power-DC and CakeLove bakery. A group of aspiring social entrepreneurs from DC middle schools are operating a baking company and selling their original cookies at neighborhood bake sales. The students are then researching community issues and using their profits to fund local and international service projects. The international component was launched with a service trip to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2007.

Kid Power-DC (KPDC), a community youth organization founded in 2002, explores local history through artistic expression, academic enrichment, and civic engagement programs. Kid Power DC Kid Power-DC believes that by making a personal connection to the past and by acquiring advanced educational skills, youth can become powerful neighborhood advocates. Through a process of self-discovery, students will gain the independence to direct their own growth, guide the development or the organization, and promote positive social change.

Kid Power-DC has achieved much success in 2007. It presented at the National Service-Learning Conference in New Mexico, implemented community action projects for the annual “Days of Service”, organized a service and cultural trip to the Dominican Republic, completed the Fair Chance capacity-building program, was featured in the 5th anniversary edition of the Catalogue for Philanthropy, received the Lehrman Foundation Impact Award, joined the Board of Directors of the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates, and was selected as the sole beneficiary of the Federal Communications Bar Association Charity Auction.
